TROTTING;

■■-"'■"' OTAHUHU .TROTTING - CLUE'S ";.] I ' : ;;V '; SUMMER meeting '. I

SECOND, DAY.

AT. Alexandra Park .yesterday . afternoon the Otahuhu v Trotting : Club provided the second instalment of their summer meeting, under favourable weather circumstances, which induced ;a : very large attendance. Speculation was brisk, and during 'the afternoon ?i the" sum ;of £2178 10s was passed through .thai totalisator in 10s tickets. The duties of judge were ably performed by Mr. R. L. Absolum, and the conduct of the meeting,; which was in the hands of Mr. W. L. Lockhart, was such as to leave no' loophole for complaint, there being not one unpleasant incident to mar the proceedings. The opening': event, '■'■ the Trial Handicap Trot, resulted in a capital finish between Rosalind, who was favourite, and the diminutive Jingo, who was defeated by a narrow margin, but might have reversed the order of things had he not broken when a-quarter of a mile from. home. The speedy gelding Occidental was made favourite for the Epsom Handicap Trot, but failed to trot kindly, and was never prominent. , This race was won with comparative ease by The Autocrat. Six lilliputians tried conclusions in the Suburban Pony Handicap, for which Annoyed received the most support, and had a safe victory. The Suburban Trot. Handicap, the principal event, was annexed .by the limit gelding, Little Ben, who was never headed. The scratch horse, King George, gave a capital exposition of trotting, and when looking likely to score in the straight broke, ana marred his chance, and galloped in fourth. There was a good field of 11 in the Telegraph Handicap Trot. The limit horse, La Grande, made the pace to the straight, where he was cut down by Donizetti, and the public were loudly proclaiming a victory for the latter, when he marred his prospects by breaking. This left La Grande to score a popular win, and one long overdue for his owner. The pony Jingo was pulled out again for the Tramway Handicap Trot, which went down to his cedit in a decisive manner. Mr. McBride's mare Duchess of Rothschild might have scored, but was overdriven during the ■latter stages of the race, and broke repeatedly. The Alexandra Handicap attracted a good field of nine lilliputians, and from a bad and straggling start the pace was strongly set by Orange and Blue, who had a heavy impost, which told when half-a-mile had been thrown behind. An outsider, in - the Waikato pony Inspiration, proved the winner, and paid, a substantial dividend. Sierra was made favourite for the Class Trot, and never left the issue in doubt, beating a good cne in Thorndean, who trotted more kindly than he has dene for some meetings. Appended are the details of the racing: —
