'■'■'-■ The current issue of the Auckland Weekly News contains over 100 interesting and varied illustrations, and is a number admirably adapted for posting to friends abroad by the outgoing 'Frisco mail. A special feature is made of the recent carnival held in Rotorua. A series of photographs by the Weekly News special photographer includes - pictures of all the events of interest which took place during the progress of the carnival. War canoes being manned, ready to start in the opening procession; canoe hurdle races starting' for the war canoe race, the chase for a bride, and a typical ancient' Maori war canoe, together with snapshots on the esplanade, and panoramic views' of Ohinemutu and Whakarewarewa contribute to a- collection of pictures such as is seldom to be obtained, while an excellent half-page drawing by the Weekly News' special artist gives an admirable representation of the famous ' poi dance by native women in the Sanatorium Grounds at nighttime'. The arrival of the Australian Squadron in Auckland . Harbour is excellently illustrated. The fleet steaming up the harbour to the anchorage, the various ships of the squadron, and scenes on ; the , flagship Royal Arthur, depicting " the handyman". at work and at play, will be of, exceptional interest, as will an excellent portrait of the new commander of the squadron, Vice-Admiral. Fanshawe. ■ ' ',
. Scenes'at the Rodney Agricultural Show, held at Warkworth recently, include views of the crowd round the show-ring, some of the first-prize winners,' an. interior view showing some of the exhibits, and ; a 'group .of the committee and judges at the show.
Scenes at the ;Matamata. Estate during the recent Ministerial visit include 'sheep. and cattle pictures, views of the . homestead, and the visiting party at the station, and serve" to convey an idea of the life -and;work on one of Auckland's largest sheep,and cattle runs. ' : '.- . ..
Pictures of the Delhi Coronation Durbar convey an idea of the splendour and magnificence of the greatest Oriental ceremony of modern times, and include the procession of, native chiefs filing past the Viceroy and Lady Curzon, the Viceroy's State entry into Delhi,and the State procession passing the famous mosque, Jama Masjid.
