WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB'S AUTUMN MEETING. THE W.J.C. will inaugurate their autumn meeting to-day. The Wanganui Cup is the leading event of the programme, and with Advance a likely contestant under the ■Welter weight of list 31b, that circumstance will serve to infuse a deal of interest into the race. : The following is a list of the horses engaged in the Cup:— St. lb. . .;,; st. lb. [BY TELEGRAPH.—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WANGANUI, Wednesday. Work on the training track this morning was full of interest. Advance proved in great form, running a mile in lm. 44in, finishing Strongly. Ostiak had three lengths lead at the start of the champion,. and the pair- were level at three-quarters of a mile, which was. done in Im. 16s. Advance finished alone. The last six furlongs was done by Advance in lm. Ms. Achilles ran six furlongs in lm. 16 2-Ss. . Handsome Rose, Dexterity; and Hardwork had a go over a mile, the former finishing in front in. lm. 465. Rags rah. the same distance in lm. 475. Machine Gun had the best of Aureatus over five furlongs, run at a strong pace. Halberdier was associated with The Shannon for a round and a-half at a strong pace, the former pleasing most. Orloff and Hinetaura went together a useful gL-''op. The former appeared to hold the mare safe. Wihdwhistle spurted five furlongs, tlit last four 'in 625. Blackwing ran five furlongs nicely in 655. Moturoa had the best of Lady Belle over a mile in lm. 50s. Advance, Orloff, and Halberdier are most fancied of the Cup candidates. The meeting promises to be the most successful and interesting for years. The town 'is full of visitors already. The continuance of. the present fine weather will ensure a big attendance; - THE V.R.C; CHAMPION STAKES. The above race is set down for decision today, at Flemington. With Wakeful, The Victory, Abundance, and Great Scot, engaged, the contest in the three-mile weight-for-age race should be brimful of interest. The fact of Ahundarice having defeated Great Scot in the St. Leger Stakes, and the latter decisively . turning the tables dh the son of Pilgrim's Progress in the Australian Cup will invest their meeting in the Champion Stakes with a deal of interest.
