LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.

[BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Wednesday. I understand that several parties under the supervision of Mr. H. D. Haszard, district surveyor, have been at work on the country to the west of the Piako swamp for the past six weeks, and that very shortly 10,000 or 12,000 acres of open and bush land will be ready for selection. A large urea of this land appears to be well adapted for fruitgrowing, as cherries, strawberries, peaches, apples, etc., have spread from the old native settlements, and an abundant supply of these are obtainable in season.
