AUCKLAND SHAREMARKET. The market was quiet yesterday. In investment lines South British Insurances sold at £5 ss, Northern Steamships (contributing) at 7s, D.S.C.'s at lis 6d and lis 9d, and Eiverhead Paper Mills, at 50s. For Bank of New Zealands buyers offered 72s 6<L New Zealand Insurances, at 89s, were looked for at 85s 6d. In mining lines. Bunker's Hills were done at 4s 6d. Tairua Broken Hills had buyers at 7s 4d, sellers 7s Bd. Waihis were firmer, sellers asking £5 10s, with buyers at £5 7s 6d. In other lines late prices ruled.

£4500 FROM 1630 TONS.

[UT TELEGRAPH.— cobbesfoxdext.] Paekoa, Tuesday. The Komata Reefs Gold Mining Company during the eight weeks ending January 31 crushed 1630 tons of quartz for a yield of bullion valued at £4500. CO. In the Hauraki No. 2 Gold Mining Company's mine, the leader being driven upon is showing good ore though no gold has been seen. The crosscut in the Thames Talisman Gold Mining Company's mine at the low level is now in 87ft, and a good class of country. The surface drive is in 105 ft. WAITAIA G.M. CO. [BV TELEGRAPH. Tributers Daldy and party have completed a crushing of 3 tons of general ore and 21b of picked stone for a return of 390z melted bullion, valued at *;106 5s 6d. HAURAKI. [BT TELEGRAPH.—OWX COKBESFOXDEXT.] Coromaxdel, Tuesday. Tributers McNeil and party have completed a crushing of dirt from the tip for a return of 240z melted bullion, at 6ls 9d per ounce, equal to £74 2s. THAMES SCHOOL OF MINES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWX COP.BESPOXDZXT.] Thames, Tuesday. The annual meeting of the Thames School of Mines took place this evening, the vicepresident (Mr. M. Paul) presiding. The annual report stated that the average attendance of registered students during the past year was 44, and of Saturday science students 60. Pleasure was expressed at the success of one of the students, in the person of James H. Adams, gaining the university scholarship as well as the president's (Mr. Geo. Denbv) gold medal for being the best all-round student for 1902, and Mr. R. W. Powell's medal for mathematics. The number of subjects Mr. Adams was examined in was 14, all of which he successfully passed and gained first-class certificates, his average number of marks for all subjects being 81.4. Regret was expressed at the late director (Mr. F. B. Allen) severing his connection with the school in order to take up an appointment in West Australia, and to the retirement of Mr. Geo. Denby from the presidency of the school through leaving the district. The vacancy caused by the retirement of Mr. Allen had been filled by the appointment of Mr. O.' G. Adams. The council expressed its sincere thanks to the Hon. Mr. McGowan, Minister for Mines, for the favourable consideration he had shown to the many applications made to him during the year for increasing the efficiency of the school, and to the teaching staff for the faithful and zealous manner in which they had performed their duties. The balance-sheet showed that the total receipts for the year, inclusive of a credit balance brought forward of £32 18s. amounted to £736 17s 7d, and the expenditure £733 18s* 6d, leaving a credit balance of £2 19s Id. The assets of the school's property wore set down as being valued at £4000, whilst the liabilities thereon are nil. The report and balance-sheet were x adopted. The officers for the ensuing year are as follows: President, Mr. Matthew Paul; vice-president, Mr. Wm. Baker; hon. treasurer, Mr. J. Hague Smith hon. secretary, Mr. A. Bruce; members of the council, Messrs. E. F. Adams, T. C. Bayldon, E. F. Murphy, J. M. McLaren and R. W. Powell. The presentation of prizes to the successful students wa3 performed by the chairman, after which ceremony tho director (Mr. 0. G. Adams) gave a short address on the advantages of an institution like the Thames School of Mines. After the proceedings were over the workshop of the electrical plant and the mineral museum were thrown open for inspection and excited considerable interest.
