A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
[BV TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Gisborne, Saturday. A serious accident befell Mr. Fred Jeune, the well-known sailmaker, at Messrs. Archibald Clark and Sons' warehouse yesterday morning. Some slight alterations to the gear were necessary, and Mr. Jeune was going to the attic for the purpose of having these effected. On passing through the trapdoor in the ceiling, he inadvertently walked on to a large skylight, which collapsed under his weight, and he fell amidst a shower of glass on to the first landing of the staircase, about 18ft beneath, drooping on his head. That be escaped deaib is little short of a miracle, for though in descending he struck the balustrade with his shoulder, breaking the fall to some extent, he landed with a heavy thud, which slightly fractured the skull. On removal to the hospital it was found that the fall had caused a very perceptible depression on the outer table of the skull, sundry cut's, and severe bruises about the body.
