GORDON If. The match between North Shore and Gordon 11., in the championship competitions, was continued at the North Share ground on Saturday afternoon. The homo team, batting first, scored 40 nuts for two wickets, but were all disposed of for a total of 60. Kyd. bowling in great form, took the wickets for one run. and finished up with the ttoot: analysis of six wickets for S runs. Mason, lour for 25, also bowled weli. Gordon's innings was remarkable for the tine display of powerful hitting by Mason, who scored 107 out of 147. and was the last wicket to fall, tun out. Mason and Kahender were togolt?er while 64 runs were scored, out of which the latter only made six.' Mason claiming the baiancc. His century contained 15 boundaries, two of them clean out of the ground. Cullorne (1!) was the only other batsman to reach double figures, and was finally caught, from a lofty hit, on the- boundary by Lyre, a premising young player. This match was won by the latter team on the first innings, by 11 runs, after a well-con-tested game. Y.M.C.A., winning the toss, elected to bat, and compiled 51 rims, the only players to reach double figures being Edmonds (10), and McKean (11). Franklin replied with 62, Brooke-Smith (an Auckland senior), being top scorer with 23, besides being tho only one to leach double figures. In their second endeavour, Y.M.C.A. ma.de the tidy total of 89. A noticeable feature was the stand made by Bennett (not out, 22), and Morris (23); these players took tho score from 14 to 45 by sound sterling cricket. There was not time for Franklin to bat again, the stumps being drawn at six o'clock. BRISCOE AND CO. V. JOHN BURNS AND CO. A match wa3 played on the EHerslio Cricket Ground between teams veprcsenting the firms of Briscoe and Co. and John Burns and Co. Old Boys match. Midland won by five wickets; Quee (not out, 55) and Holdsworth (36) were the highest scorers for the winners, and Kircaldie (42) and McKenzie (33) topped the scores for the Old Boys. Fine weather was experienced for the opening of the Hutt Valley Cycling and Athletic Club's sports, held on the banked asphalt track at the Petone Recreation Ground, this aftemon, when about 2500 spectators were present. W. Martin rode a mile behind a motor ridden bv George Lewis. The motor refused in the third round, and Martin completed the distance in 2min. 1 4-ssec. G. Sutherland won the one mile scratch race in 2min. 19 l-6sec, Martin being second and A. Huston third. E. A. Thomas (Auckland), won the final of the two miles second-class handicap. W. J. Mill (Nelson), being second, and A. R. G. Evison third. The time was smin. 2 l-ssec. T. Oates and T. Whitfield (Canterimry) were unplaced. Sutherland wm placed in the heats of the half-mile and two miles handicaps, but did not start in the finals. Martin was unplaced in the heat of the half-mil*. The final for the half-mile resulted: M.
