SANDOW'S CRITICISM OF NEW ZEALAND ADMINISTRATION.
AFTER having secured legal opinion on the matter, Sandow, the strong man, ye'iterday Paul to the local branch of the Taxation Department, the income tax levied on his earnings during his stay in New Zealand. He nad, however, a final "brush" with departmental headquarters'. In consequence of the fact that the strong man will leave for America, on the s.s. Sierra to-day, Mr. John wctrowan, Commissioner of Taxes, apparently ignorant of the settlement, telegraphed to him yesterday afternoon, as follows:— Unless £12 19s income tax is paid to post office before four o'clock.this day. a speedy summons will be served upon you." To this Sandow retorted in the following terms:—"Your wire is objectionable and impertinent, and worthy the slave of an unfair departmental. system. 1 ha-ve never refused to pay. New Zealand is a charming country, but its legislation, as evidenced by your department, will assist in making your colony ridiculous." •;
