Major Whitney, of the Colonial Ammunition Company, and Miss Whitney, are passengers by the mail steamer Sierra, which is due from Sydney this morning. " > General W. P. La louche, of the Indian - Staff Corps, who. is at present cm a visit to Wellington, has been in the colony on several occasions previously. He has made several visits from India for the purpose of enjoying the season's fishing in our streams. Mr. L. B. H. Harris, an engineer, who is leaving the employ of Messrs. Geo. <Fraser and' Sons, in order to take up an . appointment in Philadelphia, U.S.A., was presented last evening by his colleagues in .'" 'Auckland with a complete'smoker's outfit and rule. Jackson Barry attained his '84th birthday on Sunday last, he having been born at Melbourn, Cambridgeshire, on 'January 18, 1819, a few months before the birth of Her late Majesty Queen Victoria.
