WOOL SALES.
A FURTHER RISE IN PRICES. The second wool sale of the season was held in the Harbour Board Buildings, Customstreet West, on January 13, under the auspices of the Auckland Woolbrokors' Association. Tho combined catalogues offered by the throe auctioneering firms interested embraced a total of 4228 bales, which is an increase of 1127 bales on the quantity put forward at the opening sale on December 2, when- 3101 bales were submitted. As was expected satisfactory prices were realised, there being an increase of fully one farthing per pound all round, as compared with the first sale this year, when there was a sharp advance of about lid over the previous season's average. In some of the better grown wools the rise amounted to id per pound. Halfbred fleeces ranged from s?d to B|d per lb, fine crossbreds from s|d to 7d, coarse and medium crossbreds from 4£d to s£d, log-stained and cots from 3|d to 4£d, pieces from 3J,d to 4d. The margin between buyer's and seller's values was by no means as marked as was the case at the December sale, and in the majority of instances the prices paid were on a par with, if. not in excess of, the reserves fixed, tjie quantity of wool disposed of being therefore proportionately greater.
