ROTORUA-THE CARNIVAL.

A large and influential meeting of the Carnival Committee was held in the Victoria Institute on Monday evening, Captain Turner occupying the chair. Good progress was made with the various matters requiring attention. The following sub-committees were elected: —Aquatic snorts: Messrs. McMath, A. S. Barker, McDonald, War brick, Clarke, McLean, J. JMunroe. Clayton. General sports: M^'V" 5 - Spencer, Beal, R. Griffiths, W- Webber, A. S. Parker, Oldfield, Steel, and. Sloan. Evening Entertainment Committee<-. Messrs. J. W. Webber, Stewart, John Munroe, Warbriek, Horomona, Pirika, Maggie Papakura, and Bella Tom. A good and comprehensive programme has been drawn up, and should afford interest and amusement to a variety of tastes, embracing as it does besides aquatic snorts and general sports, a marine picnic to Hamurana, and bowling and tennis tournaments in the Sanatorium Grounds. The evening amusements will consist of a grand plain and fancy dress ball, outdoor concerts, and native demonstrations, etc. The local races will fall into the same week The Auckland Amateur Swimming Uub has been communicated with and invited to hold its annual championship meeting on Lake Rotorua on the date arranged for the lake sports. : The . Rotorua Bowling and lennis Clubs are also being asked' to co-operate with the Carnival Committee in arranging a tournament for Saturday, February 28,. and a sum of, £3 was donated to the Bowling Club with which they might provide a set of bowls as a prize for the occasion.' • ■•■ Captain McDonald, on behalf of the Hot Lakes Steam Navigation Company, has kindly offered to supply two or three boats free for use of committee, and to grant the use of the s.s.
