HANDWRITING IN SCHOOLS.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Ikvercargill, Saturday. The School Committees' Conference yesterday discussed the question of handwriting in schools. Members were unanimously of the opinion that- the writing was very poor, and that an endeavour should be made to effect an improvement. It was stated that most of the leading commercial houses favoured sloping writing as against the upright system, and the conference resolved to ask the Education Board to have only one system taught, with a view to securing uniformity, and to recommend the sloping system as given in the Southern Cross copybooks.
