Manchester Regiment, was charged 1 with the wilful murder of his brother, lliomas Robert. He watched the. proceed- ] > ings with apparent unconcern. Inspector' ] ' Kdwards said on going to Taylor's house lie j i found a large crowd outside. Prisoner was 1 within, sitting on the sofa, smoking a ' cigarette and laughing. He was apparently 1 , ill drink. Witness, oil going into the ~ard, i found prisoner's brother lying against the [ scullery door with a bullet wound in his > chest. A doctor who was immediately sent for pronounced life to be extinct. ' P.O. ! Hughes stated that lie wr.s informed that two men were fighting in a yard behind j Council-street,, and, on going there, met I Thomas Robert Taylor in the entry. He . advised Thomas to'go away and be quiet, [ and remarked. "You'll be sorry for this ' two brothers fighting." Witness went away : to the corner of the street, and shortly at- ' . terwavds he heard a shot fired. Rushing ' into the Taylor's house, he met prisoner coming across the kitchen from the direction ; ' of the backyard, and heard him exclaim, "Oh. I've shot him." Witness added that ■ subsequently Peter sat oil the sofa, smoking 1 a cigarette, apparently quite callous. He ; ' was under the influence of drink, but could | not he, described as "drunk." When , i charged, prisoner replied. "I will say notli- , ing." The inspector added that a Lee-Met- > ford riflethe property of the 41b V.B. . ' Manchester Regiment—which had been pre- ' > viously handed to him. was found to contain ' one spent cartridge. Prisoner was remandi eel. it appears that deceased only went to , ' live with Lis brother eight weeks ago, on his return to England from India, where he had been serving in the army, and since ; then the peace of the family has been dis- , tuibed by constant quarrels between the , brothel's.
