Hospital Rates for Seamen: Mr. George Nieeol wrote, suggesting that injured seamen, for whom he might be liable, might be treated at the hospital at half rates, and thus be placed on the same footing as members of friendly .societies. The Chairman said that members of friendly societies, by the payment of their contributions, insured themselves against, sickness, aad it was unreasonable to expect that, seamen should be placed on an equal footing. He moved. " That the request bo declined." Mr. Garland seconded, and Mr. MoLeod supported the motion. Mr. Friend said that Mr. Niccol offered to Iks responsible for half-fees in regard to all meu employed by him, and in view of th* frequent necessity to remit fees altogether it might be advantageous to accept this offer, especially as there was no liability on the part of employers to pay hospital charges. Mr. Walters moved, as an amendment, and Mr. Friend seconded, "That the matter be referred to the Finance Committee for a report." After some further discussion, the amendment was lost and the motion carried.
