THE SEVENTH CONTINGENT.
TO THK EDITOR.
Sir, —Would you kindly allow me a small' space in your valuable columns to narrate a. few of our grievances as one of the Seventh, New Zealand Contingent? We have boon! back in the colony now nearly throe mouths' and cannot get either our arrears of pay or! discharges. Wo have been treated very! shabbily, indeed, by the authorities, con-side-ring that the three hitter contingents i have been paid off and discharged. Our reward, after I?, months' hazardous work in Africa, was that we were offered tho cast-' off overcoats of the Ninth Contingent to come home with. Needless to say, wo re-' fused to take them. Now. Mr. Editor, if-, we had spent our time in Africa assaulting poor Tommies with stirrup-iron*, etc, rw might have received better treatment when; we returned. The question has been asked 1 in tlio House as regards our pay, ami the* Acting-Minister for Defence, in reply, said' it was owing to the papers not arriving from AMea. Surely this is not the fault of thetroopers. am, etc., O.YK Or' THE Disgusted Sevexth. ;
