PERSONAL ITEMS.
Captain* Colin McDonald is now in command of the a.s. Tarawera 2 which is due from the South to-day. Mr. R. W. Wade, well known in business in Hokitika, has decided to leave for South Africa, and has resigned the chairmanship of the Harbour Board.
Mr. David Walker, who, .since 1878, has acted as general secretary of the Sydney Young Men's Christian Association, has re tired from the position. Lieutenant A. Jack, of the Ninth Regiment, has returned to South Africa, in order to practise there his profession of civil engineer. Lieutenant Jack is a native of Hokitika.
The Rev. 11. L. Walker, who has recently. arrived from Haddington, Scotland, has been invited to take the pulpit for the ensuing four Sundays at St. James' Presbyterian Church. A private cablegram received in Wellington states that the Rev. Dr. Watters, ex-rector of St. Patrick's College, has been appointed rector of the Reman Catholic University College, Dublin. Dr. Fox and Mi.. ReimenSchneider, the delegates of the Fiji residents who are agitating for {he federation of Fiji with "New Zealand, left" Wellington for Sydney by the Westralia on Saturday. "Di. De Lisle, of Napier, who has beep visiting England, where he obtained additional qualifications, arrived back by the Paparoa on Saturday. Dr. De Lisle resumes his duties as health officer for the Hawke's Bay district en his return to Napier._
