A young man named Morris, who last week pleaded guilty to a, charge of false pretences, was to-day admitted to probation for three months on refunding the amount in (paction ami paying the police (•(LIS. Nr:t.sov, Wednesday. Trooper Wilson, one of the recent returned oontuigenters, is seriously ill. Hope of his recovery is small, but. his condition is slightly better this morning. N.v vm , Wednesday. At the Supreme Court this morning, Adelo Olsen, who waq acquitted on a charge of murdering her infant, was found guilty of concealment of birth, with a recommendation to mercy. Sentence was deferred till Saturday.
Oamaru, Wednesday. The Oamaru Presbytery has resolved to telegraph to the Minister for Railways, urgently requesting him to extend the privilege of excursion fares from Dmiedin to Oamaru and intermediate stations in connection with Messrs. Torrey and Alexander's mission.
lintHTiiirncH, Wednesday. ■ The Archdeaconries of Christchnroh and Ruugiora have been united, and the Rev. K. A. Scott, vicar of Sydenham, has been appointed Arefedeacou. The mission of Messrs. Torrey and Alexander is exciting great interest here, th.j huge Canterbury Hail being quite inadequate for the accommodation of the people, many being turned away nightly to overflow meetings hi adjacent halls' and churches. Two and three meetings are being held daily. The' mission will be continued for a fun her week, and the interest shows no symptoms of abating. Waxganui, Wednesday. I be Wangamii Meat Freezing Company's annual meeting was held to-day, A dividend of 6 per cent, was declared. Messrs. William Ritchie and Samuel Hundley were elected directors.
