THE REV. JAMES LYALL AND UNITARIANISM.
TO THE KOITOB. Sir,—The irrepressible Mr. Healey doea not appear to like Mr. Lyall's statements about Unitarianism, but it is nevertheless a cause for much thankfulness that there are in the world to-day men of the Lyall stamp, who are not afraid to denounce such delusions as Tlreosophy, l Spiritualism, and last, and perhaps worst, Unitarianism. I do nob intend entering into a criticism of Unitarians, as they have been exposed often enough.'. X will content myself by saying that to my mind they are utterly dishonest in the stand they take, and I believe if any teaching ever had its birthplace in hell it is Unitarianism. As for Mr. Healey. we have heard so much of what he docs not believe that it would ho interesting to know what he does believe.—l am. etc., Geo. C. Cjieagh. Milton Road, Auckland, August 7, 1902. TO THE .EDITOR.' Sir,—G. Healey only quotes human writing* when expounding his theology, and seeing to rely on them entirely and exclusively.; This is very wronc That is exactly the way to go astray. His phrase "God the Son," i* in the human Prayer Book, not in the Divine, Scriptures: a*'! the absurdly contradictory phrase, "the eternal Son of God," is used by very many Christian writers. But the Scripture is " the beloved Son." lam greatly surprised that this obvious error is so prevalent among good met* Christ was the Godman; the man was the Sen, " born of a woman," miraculously "begotten," the only begotten son of God. " Therefore—therefor--—that holy one that shall bo born of thee (the Virgin) shall be called the Son of God." How perfectly explicit! Error herein inexcusable. Scripture calls the Son of God " the Man Jesus Christ." It was Emmanuel, " God manifest, in the flesh." The Clod-man Chris!-. Jesus. "The eternal Word wasj God, and was with God." The eternal Word became flesh (incarnate), so ho was once rich, and for our salvation became poor. When was Jesus rich? Will Socinians tell us when Jesus said "I came out from God?"— am, etc.. , •r a W. E. Saolef. 'Ponsonby, August 8, 1902.
