SUCCESS OF AUCKLAND-OWNED • HORSES.

The - weather .was' perfect for the second day of the Canterbury' Jockey Club's . meeting, and the attendance was very large, including the Governor and suite. The sum of £13,567 wen through the totalisator. as compared with £12,571 for the second day last year. Six out of the seven events on the card went to North Island horses. The Auckland-owned horse Tresliam was sent out favourite for the Grand National Huddle Race, and he justified, the confidence by leading throughout and winning Ins race inS style, u Later on in the. afternoon Tresham won the Jumpers' Flat Race, while Scotty scored in the Islington Handicap. Entering the straight Flame showed in front, but below the distance Shellback took charge, and Scylla, coming with-a strong run in the middle of the field looked like winning, but failed to stay out the last furlong, Shellback beating her home bv a bare length. Count of Kolmar, who finished fast, was half-a-length away third,' and Flame fourth, Puawai fifth. Time, 2m. 17s. Dividends, £5 2s 6d and £1 4s 6d.

Winsome showed momentarily in front, but Goldspur and L*ady Brandt at once took up the running, and led Titoki by a clear two lengths round the back stretch, Blazer and Cora Linn lying next. Turning into the straight Goldspur was in charge, but the field closed lip; Somerled and Titoki being prominent with the leader. , Goldspur appeared to have the race in hand, but ho tired over the last furlong, and a magnificent race saw Titoki squeeze up on the rails in time to win by a bare nose, Rosemere being a long neck away third, and Somerled fourth, a neck away. Running to Cutis' Tresham was still in command, Roller, Long Tom, MarS, and Scottish 'Minstrel being next, in front of Battleaxe an- Surrey, with Huku last, -just, behind; Cavaliero. All down,, the back stretch Tresham continued to show the way, and; at the seven-furlong post was a length clear of Scottish Minstrel, Mars, Waiwera, and : Battleaxe being his nearest -attendants. ; At the five-furlong fence Scottish .Minstrel joined Tresham, and that pair rose together at the, last fence. Once on the flat, Tresham drew out and won very easily by eight lengths. Awahuri fell at the sodwall, leaving Cannongate in* command, but he too fell at the post-and-rails, The Swimmer following suit. Sultana then came on, and won easily from the tiring Pipi. The Shannon, who had the services of Hewitt, was left at the'<post, and when the field settled down Scotty showed just in front of Ardnarff, Field Battery, and Waiwhera. They - ran in the same order to the home turn, when : Scotty was clear of the field. Ho was - challenged in turn by Ardnarff, Kelpy and Field Battery, but easily holding his own won comfortably by three lengths, Ardnarff beating Fleka by a length for second place, Kelpy. Muscovite, and Windwhistle being next. Time, lm. 47 l-ss. Dividends, £5 16s and £4- 18s.
