London, July 23. Sir E. Barton, commenting on the Daily Mail's cablegram of appalling losses by the drought in Australia, expresses the utmost confidence in the recuperative powers of Australia. He says he is quite* aware of the pastoralists'- difficulties in parts of New South Wales, but deprecates the alarmist exaggerations in order to enable a particular industry to exact concessions from the Federal Government, regardless of the general interests of the community.'
Mr. Copeland, in an optimistic letter to the newspapers, replies to the sensational statements regarding the drought in New South Wales from a financial and pastoral standpoint. ____________
