At Aldington the fat cattle (207) were mostly useful sorts, there being very firm demand. Beef declined 2s (id per 1001b, ruling at 17s 6d to 22s 6rl. Best steers, £9 lOg to £11 2s 6cl; others, £7 2s 6d to £8 10s; heifers, £5 15s to £7 17s 6d: cows, £4 10s to £7 ss, £8 5s and £9 17s 6d for extra heavy. Very little busi- j ness in store or dairy cattle. Fat sheep (only 3500) were mostly ewes, with a lew good lines of freezing wethers, the market being most irregular, but on the whole last week's rates were about maintained. Heavy wethers, 18s to 19a; freezers, 15s 9d to 17s 9d, including one line of 600 at 17s 6d; freezing ewes. 9s 6d to 15s; extra heavy, 16s to 18s; inferior, down to 7s 9d. Fat lambs (300) were mostly taken for export at 10s to 12s 8d; inferior. 7s 9d to 9a. Store sheep (2500) were nearly all wethers and lambs, and met with very poor sale and & good deal wag passed. Backward wethers, 8s to 8s 6d; better, 10s, 10s 3d, to 12s 4d. Nearly 1000 were withdrawn at 9s 9d and lis 2d. No ewes were sold. Lambs, 6s 7to 7s 9d. Pigs (about 400) were mostly secondary sorts, and there was weak demand, causing; the market to be easier. Baconers, to 46s 6d (34d to 3?d); porkers, 133 to 30s(3|d); stores, 88 to 16s; suckers and weaners, 3s 3d to 7s. GRAIN MARKET. DUNEDIN, Wednesday. Wheat: Very little is doing. Prime samples only are asked for. Prime velvet and Tuscan, 3s lid to 4s 3d; medium, 5-i 4d to 3s 9d; whole fowl teed, 3s 2d to 3s 3d; damaged, 2s 6d to 33. Oats': The market lias been very quiet. Stocks in store are not large and are firmly held. Owing to the absence of demand sales can only be made at a reduction on late rates.
