POLICE COURT NEWS. 5Ub. T. Hutchison-, S.M., presided at the sittings of the Police Court on Saturday, r. Drunkenness: One first-offender was convicted and discharged with a caution. Gcorgo jloCauley, a previous offender, was fined ss. Charge of Theft: George McCauley was charged with the theft, on June 19, of two pairs of blankets, of the value of 15s, of one tonnterpane, of the value of 10s 6d, and one pair of boots, of the value of 14s 6d, the property of Julia Rhodes. Sub-Inspector Mitchell said a portion of the property had been recovered, and the police expected to be able to secure the remainder. He applied for a remand until Wednesday, and this was granted. ' Charge of Vagrancy : Margaret Wilkie was charged with being found at night without • lawful excuse in the railway station enclosure, and also with being an idle and disorderly person, with insufficient lawful means of support. She admitted the first charge but said that she had sufficient lawful means of support, being assisted by one of her sons Sub-Inspector Mitchell said there were a large number of previous convictions against the defendant, but the police were anxious to help her, and if she would consent to go to the Salvation Army Rescue Home, he would ask that she be convicted, and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon This course was adopted by the Bench on the woman stating that she would go to the home.
