EXTENSION- OF TERRITORY. (Received May 2, 12.27 a.m.) London, May 1. It is officially announced that an extension of territory has been granted to Natal, comprising 7000 square miles and including 8000 whites and 50,000 natives. It embraces Vryheid and Utrecht, and a portion of the Wakkerstroom district in Transvaal. Natal will become responsible for a portion of the Transvaal debt. COMMONWEALTH CONTINGENT. (Received May 2, 12.46 a.m.) London, May 1. The troopship Manhattan, with a portion of the Commonwealth Contingent, has arrived at Durban. THE COST OF THE WAR. London, April 30. The Government estimate the cost of the war in South Africa to next March will total £222,970,000. The Government estimate that to next March the new taxation will realise £76,025,000, and (lie loans £152,415,000. DID NOT KNOW OF PEACE NEGOTIATIONS. London, April 30. Nine Boers have surrendered at Klerksdorp. They professed they were unaware of peace negotiations. BACK FROM THE WAR. Fkkman'tle, May 1. The troopship Columbia brought the Fifth and Sixth West Australian Contingents and other returned troops,, including for New Zealand Nursing Sisters Pittlecott and Eagle, Captains Fenwick arid Gabites, Lieutenant Keane, and 38 men.
