THE PRINCESS RADZIWILL.

A VERDICT OF GUILTY. SENTENCE OF TWO YEARS. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. (Received May 2, 12/(6 a.m.) Capetown. May 1. The trial of Princess Radziwill has' concluded. Accused's counsel urged that she acted with no fraudulent intent and nobody was injured by the transaction. The Attorney-General stigmatised her as a blackmailer and a cruel and dangerous woman. The Chief Justice, in summing up, remarked that it was not suggested in the correspondence that Mrs. Scholtz handed the prisoner the bills'. A verdict of guilty on all counts was brought in. The Chief Justice, in passing sentence, deplored the prisoner's attempt to asperse an innocent woman (Mrs. Scholtz), and also with bribing a post office boy to commit forgery. Owing to her delicate health the prisoner was committed for two year?; to the house of correction. The prisoner listened to the sentence with bowed head. The Princess Radziwill was formerly a prominent figure in Berlin society, and was the intimate friend of the late Empress- Frederick. iHer influence in politics was such that on one occasion she was the cause of Prince Bismarck threatening to resign. She knew personally all the leading public men in Europe, and was thoroughly at home in Paris, Rome, Vienna, and St. Petersburg. She went out to the Cape some years ago and professed to have a boundless admiration for the late Mr. Rhodes.
