By Telegraph.— Association.— London, April 29. THE Australians practised yesterday in. a cold east wind for about half an hour. Excepting Hill nearly all indulged in hitting rather than correct,play. Hopkins and Duff impressed the eye-witnesses favourably. Noble and Howell seemed to have increased their pace. Jones was absent, having gone to Brighton to recuperate. The umpires for the five test matches' were yesterday settled by ballot as follows:—Hearn and Phillips, at Birmingham; Richardson and Tichmarsh, at Lord's ; Phillips and Richardson, at Sheffield ; Moss and Mycroft, at Manchester ; and Richardson and White, at the Oval. (Received April 30. 11.4 p.m.) London, April 30. The Australian cricketers practised both before and after lunch. Jones was still absent. They work systematically, each man doing 10 ! minutes' batting and all sharing in the bowling. Howell seemed in fine form with the ball. Darling and Duff batted well. Owing to the recent injury to his collarbone Saunders did not' bowl very long.
