NEW YORK FREIGHTS AND SHIPPING. . Under date of April 3, Messrs. Mailler and Qnerean report as follows;— The action outlined in cur last report in relation to advance in freight -rates, and putting them upon a suitable and reasonable basis, has been very generally carried out. There was considerable hesitancy and friction lor a time, shippers disliking to pay the advances; but as it appeares likely to continue for a considerable period, there is more willingness to ship. This is in a measure caused by the understanding that all shippers are to be treated alike in the future, and that there will be no cutting of rates nor favourable concessions made to any parties. This, we believe, will be the most satisfactory to importing interests generally in Australasia, as each house will know they are on as favourable a footing as any other. The steamer St. Fillano. which sailed on April 1 for Melbourne, Sydney, and New Zealand ports, is the first steamer clearing: at the advanced rates. The Tyser line has the steamer Star of New Zealand to load the last i half of the present month with despatch about May 1 for Melbourne, Sydney, and New Zealand porta. The United States and Australasia Steamship Company has the steamer Kronhorg to load for Frcmantle, i Melbourne. Sydney, and New Zealand ports, sailing about May 1. In sailing vessels there has been lrat very little doing.
