CONFIRMATION SERVICE AT ST. THOMAS'.

Yesterday morning the Primate (Bishop Cowie), administered the rite of confirmation at St. Thomas' Church, Union-street, to 14 young people. Seven females and .seven males were presented by tbe vicar (the Rev. W. M. Do Rieu). The Primate gave an earnest and instructive address to the candidates on •'The Work of the Holy Spirit." There was a large congregation,* and the musical portion of the service was ail that could be desired. PITT-STREET METHODIST SUNDAYSCHOOL. The fortieth anniversary of the Pitt-street Methodist Sunday-school was celebrated yesterday by special services. The Rev. J. J. Lewis, of Grafton Road, preached in the morning. The Rev. W. Ready, of Ponsonby, delivered an address to parents and friends in the afternoon. The resident minister, the Rev. C. H. Garland, presided at night. Thore were very large congregations on each occasion, many being unable to gain admission, at the evening service. The. scholars, under the couductorship of Mr. A. Peak, rendered special music. Miss Ryan, tang as a solo, the hymn " Still With Thee." A special chorus was also prettily sung by several of the scholars. Mr.' Wharton Thompson ably officiated at the. organ, and there was a. strong orchestra, led by Miss Millie Peak. The collections for the day amounted to £10. which establishes a record in the history of the school. The church was tastefully decorated with the school banner, hanging baskets of flowers, and festoons of maeroearpa and lycopodiuni, interwoven with chrysanthemums. The soiree and welcome to the newly-appointed circuit minister, the Rev. T. T. Thomas, will take place on M'canesday next, when the special music ivi'l a«»am be rendered.

CITY HALL SERVICE. The address at the City Hall service last night was given by the Rev. J. Pattison, from Queensland, from Revelations xxii. 17. Mr. Sam Palls was in the chair. Miss Alice Rimmer sang two sacred solos. ST. BRIDE'S CHURCH, MAUKU. The animal meeting of St. Bride's Church, Mauku was held on Thursday evening. The vicar, the Rev. ('. Harrison, presided. There was a good muster of members of the church, including a number of ladies. The hon. treasurer's animal balance-sheet showed all liabilities paid, and a balance in hand of £5 3s 3d to start present year with. The balancesheet of the new organ fund was also submitted, which showed £23 lis 6d ' subscribed, and :314- from sale of old organ, £35 having been paid for new organ, leaving a balance in hand of £2 lis 6d. The accounts were adopted. The vicar said he desired to thank all lot the. kind manner in which . he had been received in the district. Mr, Crisps proposed a vote of thanks to Miss Kavanagh (organist) and the members of the choir. This was seconded by Mr. G. Thorpe and carried unanimously. The vicar announced that Mr. Crispo had agreed to be his churchwarden. Mr. O. Nott was appointed people's warden, and the following committee was elected:—-Messrs. W. Cotter, O. Thorpe, Glenny, W. J. McFadden, jun., Nicholl, A. Wright, and Pago (Puui); treasurer, Mr. Wily: auditor, Mr. W. R. Wright.—[Own Correspondent.]
