THE PRICE OP MEAT IN AMERICA.

PROPOSED OFFICIAL INQUIRY.

By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.

Washington, April 24. In the House of Representatives Mr. Richardson moved for an inquiry into the abnormal rise in the price of meat, with instructions to the members of the Committee of Inquiry to recommend remedial measures. Mr. McDermott has introduced a Bill to abolish duties on imported meat and poultry. 1 > The recently-formed American Beef Trust is said to be responsible for the large increase in the price of meat, which has reached a figure that is beyond the means of thousands of the poorer classes. There was some talk a short time ago of prosecuting the directors of the trust.
