[FROM OTTE OWN' correspondent.] THERE has been quite a sensation here lately oyer a distinguished visitor at the Grand Hotel, the Countess Itiaz, who, rumour says, comes from the land of tho Pharaohs. She appears to be extremely charmed with the Maori race, and hag given them lavish tokens of. her friendship and liking for them, to which they are not slow to respond. One evening ! luring this week a special performv> ? : i s ' etc., was given in the Ohinemutu Pa at hot request, with the town band in attendance. It is not every day that the natives have 6 -° interesting a visitor of wealth and position in their midst, and the mystery of « r origin makes the " countess" all the m£. e attractive, both to Maori anil pakeha -i victors find the well-kept tennis court ?fc?L <2, an , cl are making good use of it this summer. Great credit is duo to those in charge of the grounds, both on account of condition of tho tennis ground and the bowling greon.
