THE MASTERTON INQUEST.
[by TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] :j Masteeton, Thursday. The inquest on the body of a newly-born infant found in the boiler of a furnace at McKenzie's shop, was resumed to-day. The girl Kate Alexander, alleged to , be the mother, is still in the hospital. Mr. Pownall, counsel for accused, complained that the Rev. R. Wood, a Presbyterian minister,; had interviewed the accused girl at the hospital, notwithstanding objection by .... the matron, and the fact that accused was under police surveillance, and it was alleged had endeavoured bo extract an admission of guilt from the girl. " The minister states that he went to administer spiritual comfort at the request of the girl's mother. An inquiry into this matter took place at the hospital and lasted three hours, but had no practical result.. The jury returned an open verdict. The magisterial inquiry stands adjourned until February 7. ' The accused, Thomas Murcott and Kate Alexander, were admitted to bail, ': ;.'.'•' '
