A lion which escaped from Fitzgerald's circus, showing at Broken Hill, killed a performing goat, but was recaptured after some difficulty near the Proprietary mine office. INTER-STATE CRICKET. (Received January 29, 9.50 p.m.) Sydney, January 29. The Right Rev. Christopher George Barlow, D.D., Anglican Bishop of North Queensland, has been elected Bishop of Goulburn. THE HAY SUPPLY. Melbourne, January 29. The Agent-General has cabled that the War Office intend in future to give preference to grass hay instead of oaten for South Africa. This practically puts Victoria out of the trade. The Minister has protested against the change. SCENE IN THE FEDERAL HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Melbourne, January 29. The leader of the Labour Party called attention in the Federal House to the action of Sir John Forrest in granting permission to contingenters to attend a political meeting at Adelaide to-night called for the purpose-: of sympathising with Great Britain against the. German slanders. A West Australian member dubbed Sir John Forrest a " crawling Jingo." A scene ensued. The member apologised. The Government defended Sir John Forrest's action, and the matter dropped.
