FIRE AT KAIWAKA.
A destructive fire 'occurred here on the evening of January 21, whereby the large and well-filled barn belonging to Mr. Joseph Bowmar was completely destroyed. he building was comparatively new, and at the time of its destruction was filled with oaten hay. There was also a chaff ■ cutter attached. The latter, however, was fortunately saved. When me fire" was .first noticed, Messrs. William Bowmar and W. Thornton.,- at considerable personal risk, entered the burning building, and with an almost superhuman effort succeeded in unscrewing the machine, which ' was worked by horse-power, from its ground attachments, having but bare time to get it and themselves clear of the flames. How the fire originated is not yet known. The loss will naturally fall 'heavily upon Mr. Bowmar, who in a few minutes has thus been deprived of his entire oaten crop, the product of several acres. Mr. Bowmar has the sincere sympathy of everyone hereabouts.— Correspondent.]
