In unveiling the tablet on behalf of the Pri- . mate, Canon Mac Murray also said a few appropriate words, first expressing the Primate's deep regret at his inability to be present. No one knew or appreciated the late archdeacon's good work better than the Primate. v Canon Mac Murray also spoke of Archdeacon Clarke's simple piety, his ready helpfulness, his unselfishness, and his good work-for the Church, especially among the Maori people. The service concluded with the Benediction, after which Mr. R. Leslie Hunt, the organist, played " Blest Are the V, Departed," from Spohr's "Last Judgment." The following words are engraved op the tablet:—"To the glory of God, and in loving memory of Edward Blomfield Clarke, archdeacon of Waimate, and for 40 years a missionary of New Zealand, who entered into . his rest on October 20,1900, in the 69th year of his age. To commemorate his simple piety and faithful work this tablet has been placed here by his brother clergy of both races." Among the congregation present was Mrs. Cowie, wife of the Primate, who ? . was wheeled to the church, and at the con- , - ' elusion of the service she inspected the tablet in its place in the sanctuary..
