ALLEGED FORGERY OF A CHEQUE.
- A tall young man named Harry Hart, who was apprehended on Monday by Detective Mellvenoy, was brought before Mr. H. W. Brabant, S.M., at the Police Court yesterv.. day on a charge that he did, on the 20th . mst., at Auckland, forgo a cheque or tho * sum of £53 16s, on tho Bank ot New Zea- >- land. , '' In order to give the detective forco sufficient time in which to further investigate ■ the circumstances of the case, Chief Detoc- . ; tive Grace, who represented the prosecution, applied foi an adjournment till Monday next. To this accused lodged a slight ob- • jection. He told the Court that he was .not 19 individual "wanted" in connection with • the charge. He had only arrived from DunyUn a few days ago, and in the Bank of New / Zealand's branch in that city he had money, . -out, however, on his coming to Auckland, • r »nd presenting his cheque at the Bank here, . . no was informed that the cheque was a forgery, ant ' that there was a warrant out for 1 ' the arrest of a man answering to the name ' of Hart. • / His Worship said that no doubt accused's statement would be inquired into by the police;, and on accused eventually agreeing, • the case was adjourned till Monday next. ISo bail was applied for.
