THE BARQUE ALEXANDRA.
—-a- - IMPOSSIBLE TO BE FLOATED. [BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Westpop.t, Tuesday. The stranded barque Alexandra lies oil th beach in the same position as yesterday her bow facing the . sea. The weather : moderate, and if a rough sea does not st in the vessel should not suffer much furthe damage. It is looked upon as ail imposs bility to get her off, as she is hard and fas in the sand. If there was the remote; hope of towing her out of her present pos tion the damage done could be easily ri paired.' The captain is part owner of th barque, which is valued at £10,000. Tu insurance is £3000. She was only recent! fitted up at Sydney. The; crew are a young men, the eldest being only ££. A inquiry will be held. There is no difficult in boarding the vessel. Later. Captains Ewan and Price have returne from the scene of the wreck of the bavqu Alexandra. They state that th ship lies in an extraordinary position, wit her head seaward. A small island, conc shaped, about 100 ft high, is close to th vessel. The ship's stem is about 30ft o the inside of this island, and about 101 beyond it. The crew threw planks acros from the ship to the top of the island an walked across and clambered down on t the beach. A patch of rocks lies about 1001 on the starboard side of the ship and sli rests on another patch amidships. Thes are right through the bottom of the vesse which is full of water—loft at low waterwith the stem dry. Amidships the frame are buckled Tip and the decks have -startec showing that the ship is broken amidshij and the box rudder is bent. All the spai are intact, with the sails hanging to th yards. Three boats are on the skids an everything looks right on deck and file but the ship is a hopeless wreck and lisel to break in two with the first south-westerJ gale. With the exception of the poop dec the ship is covered at high water. She we a particularly well-found vessel in so far ' rones and running gear are concerned, an had 10 months' stores aboard. The ere' rigged up a haul-away line with an endlei chain and brought the stores and person: effects ashore. Captains Ewan and Pric recommend that the vessel be abandoned t the underwriters and sold for the benefit c all whom it may concern. \
