ENCOURAGING INCREASE FOR 1901. At yesterday's meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board, the Chairman (Mr. Alfred Kidd) stated that the accounts for the past year were completed, but as the audit would take two months, he thought members would like to " know that the figures showed an encouraging increase in the business of the port as compared with last year, amounting in all to £5059 16s sd. He considered this was a fact upon .which they might congratulate themselves. t Inter alia he mentioned that wharfage ron imports showed an increase of £1755, and on exports a decrease of £557, the latter being mainly due to the shrinkage in the export of gum. The other principal items of increase were: Rents, £163 10s lOd; shipping wharfage, £373 15s 4d; port. charges, £448 5s Id harbourmaster's fees, ] £258 Os lid; Auckland dock dues, £209 17s; storage of explosives, £163 2s 8d ; interest, £•642 9s 9d. The chief items of decrease were Export wharfage, as mentioned; pilotage, £395 Is lOd; storage, £98 19s 6d. The total receipts for 1901, exclusive of refunds, amounted to £54,245 12s 4d, as against £51,185 15s lid in 1900, showing the increase to.be £3059 16s sd.
