A mysterious tragedy is reported from Towitta, In the middle of the night'a man entered a room where two sisters named Schippan were sleeping. The elder escaped, and when she returned with as- :,'•; sistance she' found Bertha, aged 14,., dead, with a terrible gash in her. throat, and the assailant gone. The parents of the girl are away on a,visit to Perth. (Received January 4, 1.7 a.m.) . ■•'■■."> Adelaide, January 3. ~ The Schippan girls were awakened by a man throwing himself across their bodies. The elder girl jumped out of bed, and the man grappled with her and knocked her head against the wall. In the struggle the ' assailant, dropped a knife, and while grop-I ing for it she escaped. Two brothers were sleeping in an adjoining building, but were " ; '■"::■ frightened and sought assistance h&.lf-a-mil©; away. Besides the gash on the throat, Bertha, the murdered girl, was gashed about the head. No clue has been ob tained to the murderer.
