AUSTRALIAN IMMIGRATION LAWS.
A' PROTEST FROM INDIA. By Telegraph.—Press Association.— (Received January 4, 12.30 a.m.) Calcutta, January 3. The Bengal Chamber of Commerce has appealed to Lord Curzon protesting against Australian interference with Asiatic labour beyond the limits of its own jurisdiction. The appeal claims that the Immigration Restriction Bill imperils the interests of 70,000 Lascar seamen and firemen employed in mail companies, and ! urges that such a policy is a retrograde step and unworthy of the Legislature of any British dominion. The hope is expressed that the British Government will take steps to' have the Bill amended.
