SERIOUS FIRE AT WANGANUI
[BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] Wanganui, Sunday. A serious fire occurred in the Avenue between six and seven o'clock this morning, when the large two-storey premises known as Victoria House, occupied by Mr. Buckrell (draper), and Mr. Urichton (boot and shoe dealer), was completely destroyed. The adjoining premises, including the Bank of New had a very narrow escape. The insurances are : Buckrell's stock, £3500; Crichton's stock, £1650. Details as to the offices are not available. The building, owned by Mr. Peter Bell, was insured for £iooo,_£looo in the Manchester, and £500 each in the Commercial Union and Norwich Union. Mr. Buckrell's loss .is estimated at £2000 over insurance, and Mi. Crichton's at £1000.
