DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES.

MOUNT EDEN COLLEGE.

THE Domain Cricket Ground presented a bright appearance yesterday afternoon, when an innovation in prize distributions was made by the Misses Hews (principals of the Mount Eden Ladies' College). Alter tile ceremony of handing the prizes to the successful pupils, which was performed from the pavilion by the Rev. Win. Beatty, M.A., who also made a congratulatory speech, a sports programme was indulged in. The weather was most favourable, and the girls entered thoroughly into the spirit of the sport, acquitting themselves most creditably. Numbering about 70 all told, they wore yellow rosettes, and were attired in white dresses and caps, and a decidedly pretty effect was secured, especially in the musical drill and bicycle rides. Afternoon tea was served by the pupils and their friends, and Marriage's String Hand supplied a musical programme. Dr. A. C. Maitiand acted as starter, and the following gentlemen were the judgesßevs. W. Beatty and W. H. Johnston. Dr. T. lloj-e Lewis, Messrs. liees George, S. Ilesketh. ,1. C. Macky, F. Bodle, I). Walker, W. Southull, 1-. J. Sanderson, G. W. Bews, and P. T. Upton. Musical drill was gone through with admirable precision by some 70 girls. Three maypoles were employed in maypole dances, and the graceful movements of the dancers on the green, sward made this one of the most attractive events. A bicycle parade, in which 23 girl riders participated. had a surprisingly pretty effect. Miss R. Walker deserved special mention, for the part that she took in this event was the keynote of its success. The riders went through intricate movements in a most facile manner, and showed excellent riding and control of their cycles. Other events comprised flat races, tugs of war, cycle races, and tilting at ring, menagerie race, sack race, hurdle race, and jionning competitions, all of which proved most interesting contests.
