PROPOSED STATE BANK.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dtjnedin, Tuesday. At the close of the Ellis meeting the following resolution was carried, That, in view of the growth of the public debt of the General Government, and of local bodies, this meeting is of opinion that the Government of New Zealand should assume the functions of banking; that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Colonial Treasurer and members for Dunedin City; that the Trades Council of Dunedin be requested to organise meetings in the suburbs of the city, and to communicate with the labour bodies throughout the colony, with a view of evoking public interest in favour of a State bank for New Zealand."
