RIFLE CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION'.] Yvanganct, Monday. The first rifle meeting under the management of the Defence Department commences at Trentbam on February 20. The aggregate matches are still retained on the programme, with the exception of the .Marlborough and ladies' matches, for which souad shooting matches at 200 yds and oOOyds are substituted, both counting for the aggregate. In order to encourage rifle shooting the Defence Minister has agreed to provide ammunition and sighting shots free of cost, one sighting shot only, which cannot be counted in the score, beting allowed. The annual subscription has been struck out, and the entrance fee for matches reduced. LeeEnfields and Martini-EnfieJds are to be used, private rifles being debarred. A camp will be pitched -it Trentbam, and arrangements made for messing. Railway passes (secondclass) will be issued to all competitors, on application to officers commanding the districts.
