ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION.

CnRiSTcnuRCiT, November 15. Twenty-three Siberian dogs for the Discovery Antartic Expedition arrived at Lyt-tlet-on by Talune on Nov. 15, and were transhipped to Quail Island to await the arrival of the Discoveiy. It is understood to be inaccurate that the ship will call at Stewart's Island and take off the dogs left there by Mr.' I3ochgrevinck. The dogs are crosses of the retriever, collie, and fox-terriers, with the wolf, and appear to be somewhat savage. The average cost of each dog is £40, and their average pulling capacity reaches 2001b.

The dogs are in charge of W. J. Weller, who is on the staff of the expedition, and who has been attending to them all along. 'Ihey are of many colours, but all of the same size, standing about 2ft high. One is a pure-bred wolf, four are Esquimau dogs, and the remainder are quarter-bred and half-bred Siberian wolves. Their longpointed noses, sharp ears, and shape, denote the stock from which they have come, and there is generally a very wolfish look about them. Twenty-five Canterbury sheep-breeders have offered each 10 sheep or lambs towards the provisioning of the Antarctic exploring vessel Discovery, or 250 sheep in all.
