In the Federal House, on Mr. Kingston'* motion, the duty on biscuits was reduced to one penny a pound. Sir W. McMillan carried an amendment reducing the duty on blue to one penny. L NEW SOUTH WALES PARLIAMENT. Stdnet, November 27. The Legislative Assembly has disagreed with the Council's more important amendments to the Industrial Arbitration Bill. * A SYDNEY LOAN. Sydney, November 27. The city corporation-has floated locally a £200,000 four per cent. loan. It was nearly doubly subscribed. - OBITUARY Sydney, November 27. Mr. Alfred Fairfax, prominent in commercial and aquatic circles, is dead, aged 77. BREAKING THE CUSTOMS SEALS. Melbourne, November 27.v* The action of the Minister for Customs against the steamer Oceana for breaking the seals placed on her stores, came before Justice- Hood, on a summons,. The claim is for £100 for entering port with broken seals and £50 for using stores while the ship was within territorial waters. With the consent of both parties the case was referred to the Full Court. THE FEDERAL COMMANDANT. Melbourne, November 27. Mr. Deakin, Minister for Defence, states that no information has been received from the War Office with reference to the appointment of a Federal commandant. The Times' announcement is taken to mean thatGeneral Hutton has informed the War Office that he will accept the position when it is formally offered to him. INTERSTATE CRICKET. (Received November 27, 9.25 p.m.) Melbourne, November 27. . In the; cricket match Victoria v. South Australia, the Victorians in their second innings lust five wickets for 297. Worrall made 35 (not out), Laver 40, and Macalister 105. The Victorians won by five wickets.
