OLD AGE PENSIONS.

The investigating magistrate for old age pensions, Mr. H. W. Brabant, S.M., had another large cause list to deal with yesterday, and completed the whole number set down for inquiry. The summary of rejections last week and yesterday comprised the following: —Under age, seven ; rejected for having too much income, two; withdrawn, two; struck out, owing to police reports, one; certificates voluntarily surrendered, one. In one claim the applicant had a considerable sum of money in the Auckland Savings Bank, and on th-i representations of the DeputyRegistrar a justice of the peace was authorised by the Court to obtain and retain the old man's bankbook. After going through necessary documents, examining those who claimed, and various corroborative proofs, the S.M. authorised certificates to issue to the billowing persons for the full amount of £18:—Ann Murphy, ltatene Revveti, Bine Hohepa, Isabella McManus, Bosnia. Exton, Johr Keenan, Noil Beaton, Hannah Jensen, Emma Dunne, Mary Ann Woods, James Baynham, William Stevens, Louisa Vercoe, Caroline Tomlinson, Margaret O'Sullivan, Ann Keenan, and James Hogan (his wife appointed payee). Reduced amounts in the undermentioned instances were also authorised:—William Taylor, £15 ; and Ann Cooke, £15. Several of the applications had to be adjourned until next hearing. The Bench intimated its intention of continuing the judicial inquiries on the 11th prox.
