ACCIDENT TO THE POHERUA.
STRIKES A ROCK,
[by TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, Wednesday. The Union Company's steamer Poherua touched a rock yesterday off Stephens' Island, Cook Strait, when on the voyage from Lyttelton to Westporfc. There was a dense fog at the time. Captain Adams put into Wellington, arriving at eleven o'clock this morning. The vessel is making no water, but will be surveyed before again putting to sea, and an inquiry will be held by the Collector of Customs.
