FATAL ACCIDENT IN A MINE.
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Coromaxdel, Wednesday. Leonard Roberts, shift boss in the Royal Oak mine, fell down a pass this evening about half-past five o'clock. He -was quickly got out, and Dr. C'heesemau was telegraphed for, and when he arrived saw the critical state Roberts was in. A large party of the miners quickly mustered, and carried him over the Tokatea Hill to the hospital, a distance of about five miles, accompanied by Dr. Cheeseman. Every attention was given to the sufferer, but when near the bottom of the range, on the Coromandel side, Roberts breathed his last. Leonard Roberts was a very old and much respected resident in Coromandel. He leaves a wife and large family. Some of his sons are working at Paeroa at present. Mr. Murray, his father-in-law. was for many years foreman at the rope works, Stanley-street. Auckland. Much sympathy is felt for Mrs. Roberts and her family in their bereavement.
