ATHENVEUM LITERARY AND DEBATING SOCIETY. The annual meeting of the Athenaeum Literary and Debating Society was held in the ciubrooms, Queen-street, " on Tuesday, Mr. M. Aldis presiding. There was about the average attendance. A letter was read from the American Consul, acknowledging a letter of sympathy re the death of President McKinley. The secretary, Mr. Hill, read his annual report, which" showed that the society was still making good progress. It stated that the society had had a very successful year, and a considerable number of new members had been added to the roll. The average attendance of members had been higher, and the attendance of visitors had also increased. The report stated that the best attendance was on evenings when debates were held. The evenings devoted to essays and literary work had given satisfaction. The treasurer, Mr. Luhning, read his financial report, which showed that the society's finance was in a sound condition. There had been several valuable volumes added to the library. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President. Mr. A. G. Jarrott; vicepresidents, Messrs. Potter. Koesing and Hill: editor, Mr. R. Pheney; secretary, Mr. F. M. Hill; treasurer,' Mr. F. W. Luhning; members of executive committee, Messrs. J. 11. Gregory and E. E. Vailo.
