OPENING MATCH AT PORT ALBERT. The important event of opening the cricket season at Port Albert took place in the Port Albert Cricket Club's oval on Saturday, October 12. The weather was all that could bo desired, and a number of onlookers witnessed an interesting and well-played match of married v. single. The play on both sides gives promise of a successful season for, tho club if sufficient practice can be obtained.. The teams were well bandied by their re-. sportive captains, .1. Graham (married) and E. A. Reid (single). For the first innings the singles made a good stand for 68 runs,{ the principal scorers being Sidney Gubb (18), i Seymoui Gubb (17), and W. Neal (11 runs).. The benedicts then went in and surprised their opponents with a score of 77 runs, P.* Treadwell making an easy first with 40 runs' to his credit, none of the others reaching; double figures, E. Gubb and W. Becrofb declaring their innings closed with five runs each. It is perhaps enly fair to our single friends and the ladies to say that Messrs. Treadwell, Gubb, end Becroft are not yet married acting in that capacity for the occasion only. Bowling for the married sida Graham took four wickets, i Reid two, Treadwell one. For the single side A. Logge (thiee wickets), W. Neal (two wickets), P. Gubb (one wicket), and L. Armitago (one wicket) were the successful lwwlers. Tho officers of the Port Albert Cricket Club for this season are:—Patron, Mr. R. Monk, M.H.R.; president, Mr. L. P. Becroft,'! secretary, Mr. K. A. Reid ; treasurer, Mr. A. Gubb; Commit-too of Management, Messrs* Keep, Armifcafie, Gubb, and Graham. The nicely-prepared tennis court of tho ■ local tennis club gives promise of many pleasant (hours spent at that interesting and graceful pastime.— Correspondent.]
