[BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Ashburton, Wednesday. A howling nor'-wester was experienced today, damaging the fruit trees. Napi'kr, Wednesday. Mr. (J. Ellison, of Messrs- Ellison and Duncan, merchants, was to-day elected to a .seat on the Harbour Board by 92 votes over his opponent, Mr. M. Lascelles. Considerable interest was taken in the election. New Plymouth, Wednesday. A deputation consisting of the Mayor, the chairmen of several public bodies, and leading business men, interviewed Mr. Piper, the trafiic manager, to-day, urging that the inward morning train be timed to arrive a-quarter of an hour earlier than at present, instead of a-quarter of an hour later, as proposed under the new time-table. The great inconvenience which would be caused by the new time-table to people attending the Courts or local bodies' meetings was pointed out, and Mr. Piper promised to lay the matter before the general manager. At the Board meeting to-day the special committee presented an. exhaustive report dealing with the proposed new scale of teachers salaries.
